Four people were arrested following a reported break-in downtown at 11 Hussey Street just after midnight on Sunday. The incident began when the homeowner spotted four unknown people entering his home on his security cameras, according to a Nantucket Police Department report. He contacted his caretaker, who called 911 to report a break-in. When officers arrived they found the back door of the home open and discovered four suspects – two males and two females – inside the home. One of the suspects indicated that he was a painter who had been working on the home, and the others told officers that they believed he had permission to be there. According to the police report, the responding officers confirmed that the painter nor anyone else had permission to be in the home, but that there was no forced entry. The four suspects were arrested and charged with breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony. They were released Monday morning following arraignments in Nantucket District Court. At the house on Hussey Street, the interior of which was under construction Wednesday morning, workers were coming and going and said they knew nothing about a break-in.
